Job fair set for parolees and probationers

DOUGLASVILLE, Ga. -

Dozens of parolees and probationers from Douglasville and surrounding areas gathered on Tuesday to prepare for an opportunity for employment.

The parole and probation offices of Douglasville are teaming up with state officials and the Georgia Department of Labor to host a job fair on Wednesday.

Officials say that employment is a requirement for parole and in Douglasville; 74 percent of parolees have a job.  Labor department workers spent Tuesday preparing parolees and probationers for the job fair with resume critiques, interviewing advice and clothing.

"Research has shown us for everyday they are on it, have a job, they are more likely…to stay out of prison and not go back to where they came from," said Craig Cazier, the chief parole officer at the Douglasville Parole Office.

Timothy Searcy, a convicted felon on probation, said he plans on "dressing for success."

"I plan on wearing some nice clothes, coming in with confidence and a great attitude," Searcy said.

Officials emphasize the importance of increased tax revenue generated from ex-convicts re-entering the workforce. They expect more than 100 parolees and probationers to come out to the job fair Wednesday, but they also say anyone is invited.

About a dozen employers will attend the fair.  It runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Visions 21 facilities on Bankhead Highway in Douglasville. Click here for more information.
