Belgium-bound flight forced to return to O'Hare over 'security concern'

Posted: Updated:
CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) -

A flight leaving O'Hare Airport bound for Belgium had to return to Chicago last night.

United Airlines flight 972 from Chicago to Brussels had to be diverted back to O'Hare Airport, where authorities met the returning flight about 9 p.m., police News Affairs Officer Ron Gaines said.

The flight returned safely Friday to Chicago at 10:07 p.m. due to a "suspected security concern," said United Airlines spokeswoman Jennifer Dohm, who did not provide further details. Passengers were placed on an alternate plane to Brussels.

The FBI has been notified of the incident, but Chicago police made no arrests, Gaines said.
