'Dutch' Daulton Talks One-On-One With FOX 29

PHILADELPHIA -

He has a name and face that is familiar to any Phillies fan. Darren Daulton was already a huge inspiration before being diagnosed with brain cancer. And now, he continues to inspire.

Things are very different for "Dutch" now. In his eyes, things are different, but not necessarily worse.

"Obviously I have a problem talking, I was a catcher," jokes Daulton.

The catcher's mask has now been replaced with a rag while he goes through radiation treatments.

"Hulk Hogan, he's got the most [bandanas], I think."

The smile, the laugh, they're still there. In fact, the infectious attitude is getting him through a period he'd like to forget.

"I do a treatment every day in Tampa..." he says.

He continues his laughter in the middle of something most of us can't even imagine. But Dutch can handle it.

"I'm ready, at the point where in two weeks, I'll be done with everything."

FOX 29's Mike Jerrick then asks about the day Daulton found out he had tumors.

"The day it happened," he recalls, "I was like whoa? We'll just do what we gotta do, this doesn't look good."

Surrounded by former teammates as he gets ready for his charity golf tournament on Monday, Daulton shares stories and counts his blessings. Among them, a better relationship with his children.

"The kid's have grown up, and that's been cool."

He celebrates, he laughs, he enjoys life. Part of the catcher who's charisma was so much a part of Philadelphia in the '90s is still here. His life has changed, but it now just depends on how you want to look at it.

"There's a script that everybody deals with in every lifetime, and I've been through lot of these, and I'm doing it right now... it's a pain in the butt, but we're going to be fine. We got a lot more left."

The Lulu Country Club in Glenside, Pa., is hosting a charity golf outing Monday.

Daulton and other members of the 1993 world series Phillies will be out on the green.

The proceeds will go towards Daulton's medical expenses.
