Julie Chang's Tour Of Asia

Posted: Updated:

Sipadan, Maylasia

Our Julie is back from her tour of Korea, Bhutan and the remote island of Sipadan, Malaysia! You may have already seen some pictures on her instagram (@TrulyJulieChang)...but here's footage that she saved just for Good Day LA! Gangnam Style underwater!!

Nestled in the Himalayas is one of the happiest places on earth...Bhutan! They actually have a gross national happiness index! With a population of about 700,000 and approximately 15,000 cars...there's not a single traffic light in the entire country. No wonder happiness is abundant. Few things to know about Bhutan. If you visit, the rule is you must hire guides. This is the government's efforts to keep the country clean and to preserve as much authenticity as possible. I like to have my own adventures so I was very against this guide rule initially, but once you go, you understand why.  I went with Guides of Bhutan and they were 5-stars. Totally exceeded my expectations. But if you're adamant on not having guides than I believe the only loophole to that rule is staying at the luxury resort Amankora, which has its own set of tours. I had the pleasure of staying at Amankora Thimpu and Amankora Paro...PHENOMENAL. I'm not married...I'm not even engaged...but I swear, I feel like I just had my honeymoon staying there. Only downfall is I may never experience such accommodation again:)

I juxtaposed my luxury stay by doing a farmhouse stay as well (all of this arranged by my guides)...and it was so charming. I loved the family...3 generations all under one roof...and even the farm chores. Yes, me..the city girl...got to milk a cow in the morning:) And play archery in the afternoon. It really was the closest way to see and live the Bhutanese life. I finished my Bhutan journey on a high note...literally and figuratively. I hiked nearly 10,000 feet to the awe-inspiring Buddhist monastery Tiger's Nest. It dates back to the 8th C., and perched on the edge of a cliff, it is an absolute marvel. Bhutan is by far the most spiritual place I've ever visited.

I have nearly 400 pictures I wanna share, but since that would mean torture for our web team, I've narrowed it down to just 11 pictures. To see the rest, though, meet me on TrulyJulieChang.com.

Julie will post more pictures and video from her travels so keep checking back to myfoxla.com for the latest. She'll tweet out when the postings are live so follow her @JulieChang.
