CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) -

A Berwyn man has been charged with breaking into his ex-girlfriend's Lower West Side home and stabbing her to death during a domestic dispute Sunday morning.

Joanna Lopez, 26, was stabbed at her home in the 1700 block of West 21st Street about 6:45 a.m., authorities said. She was dead at the scene.

Her ex-boyfriend, 33-year-old Emilio Izguirre, is charged with first-degree murder and home invasion causing injury in connection with her death, police News Affairs said in a release.

The incident appeared to be domestic in nature, police said previously.

An autopsy Monday determined Lopez died of multiple stab wounds and her death was ruled a homicide, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.

Izguirre, of the 3200 block of Kenilworth Avenue in Berwyn, is expected to appear for a bond hearing Tuesday.
