Napoleon's neighborhood plan revives "one square miles at a time"

Posted: Updated:
DETROIT, Mich. (WJBK) -

Detroit mayoral candidate Sheriff Benny Napoleon reveals his neighborhood plan to reduce crime by 50%, saying Detroit neighborhoods will be transformed one square mile at a time.

His plan includes a 4-point strategy to prevent crime:

  • Problem-Oriented Policing
  • Data-Driven Crime Fighting
  • Directed Enforcement
  • Community Policing

For more information on how those four points work, click here.

The 'community policing' strategy includes assigning one police officer to each square mile of Detroit.

"Some folks say, 'How [are] you going to do that?' The Detroit Police Department has 2,600 police officers - I only need 133 of them," Napoleon explains to a crowd of about 75 at Greater Emmanuel Institutional Church of God in Detroit Tuesday night.

Napoleon's plan comes one day after his opponent, Mike Duggan, announced his neighborhood plan. Both plans focus on reviving Detroit's neighborhoods, but unlike Duggan, Napoleon plans to unveil his plan a little bit at a time.

He says he will unveil the next park of his plan later this month, which covers how he will tackle abandoned homes, economic development and transportation.
