GOP mayoral nominee Joe Lhota

NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) - Voters still don't know who the Democratic nominee for mayor of New York City will be, but they do know who the Republican nominee is.

Joe Lhota won the nomination Tuesday night. He told Good Day NY on Thursday  that regardless if the nominee is Bill de Blasio or Bill Thompson, he's going to focus on campaigning about who Joe Lhota is.

"Some say "he’s just going to continue Bloomberg; he’s going to continue Giuliani"… People who know me know how different I am from both of those men.  I want to enhance communication with communities. I will talk with anybody. I’m going to restart town hall meetings again. Mayors need to be out there,” said Lhota.

De Blasio was the top vote-getter in the Democratic primary with just over the 40% needed to avoid an Oct. 1 runoff.

Former city comptroller Thompson, who finished second, didn't release a public schedule but has vowed to stay in the race.

About 645,000 votes were cast in Tuesday's election -- and on Thursday, the Board of Elections will bring back voting machines from local precincts to borough headquarters ahead of Friday's recount.

On Monday, officials will add to the tally at least another 16,000 outstanding absentee and special ballots.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.

Richie Sambora spent 30 years as the lead guitarist of rock band Bon Jovi. Nowadays, he's touring with Orianthi, the former lead guitarist for the late King of Pop, Michael Jackson. “We’ve been tearing it up. It’s been the improvisational thing. It’s a very exciting thing," said Sambora during Good Day New York. The New Jersey native from "a blue collar, working class family" missed home and watching his daughter grow.

Fruit packaged by the Wawona Packing Company out of Cutler, California and sold at stores across the country is being voluntarily recalled. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration says there is a possibility the recalled products may be contaminated with listeria. No illnesses have been linked to the recall. Certain lots of peaches, nectarines, plums and pluots sold at Trader Joe's, Costco, Sam's Club and Fresh Direct could be contaminated with the dangerous food-borne pathogen.
