NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) -

Police in New York have been told to be on the lookout for a missing man with a case of amnesia.

Michael Savitsky, 45, from Plainview, went missing Tuesday.

Savitsky has transient global amnesia. The Mayo Clinic describes it as a sudden, temporary episode of memory loss that can't be attributed to a more common neurological condition, such as epilepsy or stroke.

During an episode, the recall of recent events simply vanishes, so you can't remember where you are or how you got there. You may also draw a blank when asked to remember things that happened a day, a month or even a year ago. With transient global amnesia, you do remember who you are, and recognize the people you know well, according to the Mayo Clinic.

Savitsky was last seen wearing navy blue shorts, a navy blue polo shirt and was driving a 2013 gray Hyundai Accent 4 door with New York plate AJB-8416.

Police say he may be traveling to Suffolk County, and be in need of immediate medical attention.

Police ask if you see Savitsky to call 516-573-7347 or 911.
