Work begins at turnpike interchange at I-4

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35 ORLANDO) -

Florida's Turnpike has begun a $10.2 million project to provide additional capacity at its interchange with Interstate 4.

The project, scheduled for completion in fall 2014, adds an additional lane to the Turnpike's southbound entry and exit ramps.  The project also adds an additional lane to the northbound exit ramp, and adds additional capacity to the eastbound auxiliary lane between Kirkman and the Turnpike.

This design-build project will relieve congestion at the Turnpike ramps from Interstate 4 during peak travel hours and improves connectivity with shopping, dining and attractions in the tourist corridor.

The realignment of the southbound exit ramp improves traffic flow on the connector road to the Tandem Truck Staging Lot located behind the northbound toll plaza building.  The enhancement makes it easy for trucks to exit the staging area to the Turnpike exit ramps.

The project includes an additional heavy truck turnaround at the south end of the Turkey Lake Service Plaza and new signage.
