WASHINGTON, D.C. -

Is Senator John McCain hinting at retirement when his term is up in 2016? An interview with a DC newspaper The Hill set off a wave of rumors.

In that interview with The Hill he talked about his relationship with President Obama and said "The president is in his last term, I'm probably in mine."

And later said, "I don't want to be one of these old guys that should've shoved off."

The 77-year-old senator has served 27 years in DC. His term is up in 2016.

He later tweeted: "To clarify I've long said I'd wait a few years before thinking about 2016. Focused on the present challenges."
