Workers at Phoenix trash facility report illnesses
PHOENIX (AP) - Phoenix firefighters are checking possible chemical exposure by numerous workers who have reported feeling ill at a recycling and trash transfer facility on the city's far northern outskirts Tuesday morning.
Fire Capt. Larry Nunez says the workers have reported varying symptoms that include scratchy throats, chest pain and vomiting.
However, Nunez says none of the workers appear to have critical conditions requiring immediate hospitalization.
Nunez says it's not clear what chemical might be involved and whether it was from something being recycling or stored at the facility.
He says a hazardous-materials crew is at the site to evaluate the situation.
