Hidden Tattoo Section In High School Yearbook Causes Debate

Alvin High school is in a small community and what happens in a small community gets around fast, especially controversy.

"We're asking parents if you think that's appropriate for students here in the district?" asks the FOX reporter.

"Absolutely not," answers the parent.

"Oh wow is that what I see?" says another parent.

"Yes. She's got a tatt."

The parents are looking at two pages out of the 2013 Alvin High School yearbook. The spread shows the 10 tattoos that you didn't know students had on campus. One female student is literally pulling her pants down to show her tattoo in the book.

"In the yearbook I think it's inappropriate that they are showing their skin to all the other kids," says a student.

Then there are some students who say a little skin is no big deal to them.

"Everyone knows people have tattoos and they just have tattoos in high school. It's not big deal," says another student.

That yearbook has already been distributed and made the rounds. Some in Alvin were so bothered they called it soft porn and sent it to FOX 26 in Houston.

Some parents were also surprised Alvin High would even allow the tattoo section especially since the school bans the physical display of tattoos by students.

In fact, parents say students have to keep their tattoos covered while on campus.

"They're not even of age to get a tattoo," says a parent. "No, my child would not do that."

"I would be horrified if that was my daughter. Everybody has a right to… raise their children how they want and that's a sign of the times," opines another parent.

District officials say they'd just learned about the page and it did not reflect the values of the school or the district. FOX 26 received this statement:

Although students are encouraged to be creative...this should be done under the watchful eye of discerning adults. The District has initiated additional procedures to ensure an increased level of oversight is provided. We...apologize for this occurrence.
