Computer glitch leaves AirTran travelers stranded

Posted: Updated:
ATLANTA -

An AirTran computer glitch stranded thousands of travelers nationwide on Tuesday. The major setback caused long lines at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport.

AirTran said that a power outage at the reservation facility forced agents to process boarding passes by hand.

People who had printed boarding passes were allowed to get on the flight. Others, like Pete Stovie, were forced to wait around.

"They're not cancelling flights is my understanding, because people with tickets are getting on the planes; people without are standing here looking stupid," said Stovie.

Some flights were delayed, giving people hope they'd be able to catch their plane. Others weren't so lucky. Brian Vellmure weighed paying more to get home to Los Angeles.

"I was here an hour and a half early, but I wasn't able to print my boarding pass. So now I'm being offered a chance to fly an hour later for an additional $210," said Vellmure. "It's really, really bad customer service."

Things appeared to slowly be returning to normal late Tuesday.
