A thin, long faced man returns to the rubble of the home he built for his family over twenty years ago. Ron Friedli watched his children grow up in the beautiful, remote homestead at Pinyon Pines, … He also got to see there, the charred remains of his 18 year old daughter, Rebeca, who was killed along with her mother, Vicki, and Vicki's long time boyfriend, Jon Hawyward on September of 2006.
"It was such a vicious crime, I just couldn't bring myself to come back here, again until now…" he says. The family is being helped by a group of retired law enforcement personnel who are working pro bono on the unsolved crime, which continues being a thorn on the side of Riverside County Sheriff investigators. No arrests have been made.
All that's known is that Becky returned home on the night of the 17th to find her mom and Jon dead. The killers were still in the house, and she tried to flee, but did not get far. The suspects and investigators believe there were at least two of them- killed her and brought her body back in a wheelbarrow. Then they proceeded to burn down the house with Becky inside the wheelbarrow.
"I still remember the flesh stuck to that wheelbarrow, I had to get someone to help, so we could peel off the remains and bury her…" Ron tries to remain dignified, as the words come out of his mouth. He is a retired Sheriff Lieutenant, worked over 20 years in the same agency that is investigating the murders, but admits "I never saw anything like this…"
A $50,000 reward is being offered for any information leading to the arrests and convictions of those responsible…
"They will do it again if they are not caught" warns Becky's dad…" catching them won't bring her back, or fill the hole in my chest, but I truly believe these people are capable, and likely to do this again, and I don't want to see another family go through this, because of them."
You can see a copy of the recreation from that night, in our story here… If you know anything, here's a couple of numbers you can call (anonymously, if need be).
