Police Officer Wounded In Shooting Last Month Goes Home

Posted: Updated:
PHILADELPHIA -

A Philadelphia police officer who was shot and wounded in the line of duty headed home from the hospital after more than a month-long stay.

Officer Edward Davies was helping chase a suspect following a traffic stop back on Aug. 13 when he was shot inside a Feltonville corner store. The wound was to his stomach, just inches below his bulletproof vest.

Davies, a married father of four and six-year force veteran, underwent at least five surgeries during his hospitalization.

The accused gunman, 31-year-old Eric Torres, appeared in court for a preliminary hearing earlier this month and was ordered to stand trial.

Davies' partner testified that he, Davies and two other officers struggled with Torres for several minutes.

The partner told the judge that if Torres' gun hadn't jammed after he shot Davies, all four of them could be dead.

Blood drives were held after the shooting so members of the police department as well as the public could "#StandWithDavies" as he continued to recover in the hospital.
