AUBURN HILLS, Mich. (WJBK) -

A judge last week granted the state's request to remove a 6-month-old girl and a 6-year-old boy from the home of Maria and Gordon "Steve" Green. They have been placed with relatives.

The Greens use medical marijuana to treat Gordon's multiple sclerosis and epilepsy.

Child welfare workers acted after Maria Green's former husband complained, covert says. He's the father of the boy.

Another local family has come forward that recently experienced a situation similar to the Green's.

Kayla of Auburn Hills tells Fox 2's Erika Erickson she received a medical marijuana license while pregnant thinking it was legal. She had her baby at the hospital, then Child Protective Services came in and told Kayla, who tested positive for drugs, she couldn't bring her new daughter home.

Dozens of people rallied Tuesday in Lansing to support the Greens.
 
In May, Attorney General Bill Schuette said parents who use medical marijuana aren't disqualified from having custody of children, although there can be exceptions.
