FOX 9 SING-A-LONG: Eagles fans flock to sold-out Target Center

MINNEAPOLIS (KMSP) -

Their songbook spans decades, and the sounds are beloved by people young and old. Everyone seems to have a favorite Eagles song, so FOX 9 News met with fans before the show to find out -- and sing out -- the tune that soars the highest.

The band packed the Target Center on Wednesday night with fans eager to hear the songs that have become American classics. Though some may not know it, the original lead guitarist was born in what is now Apple Valley before moving to California when he was 8. Although he quit the band in 1975, he's back for the reunion tour and that's one reason Eagles fans are glad the band landed in Minnesota.

Fans young and old flocked were certainly singing the band's praises before heading to the sold-out, 15,000-seat arena to hear the best-selling band in American history spread their wings.

Formed in the early 1970s by Don Henly, Glen Fry, Randy Meisner and Minneapolis-native Bernie Leadon, the Eagles were an instant success. Their laid-back southern California sound helped define the decade, and their greatest hits collection is tied with Michael Jackson's "Thriller" for the best-selling album of all time.

"They were basically the soundtrack for white, middle-class America in the 1970s," Jon Bream said. "They were to the 70s what the Beach Boys were to the 60s -- memorable melodies, great harmonies, multiple singers and an endless supply of California dreams."

Even though the band broke up in 1980, their music has been a radio staple ever since -- and there's no doubt the Eagles' music will continue to soar for years to come.
