It's a case that caused even the most hardened and experienced cop to do a double take -- a domestic disturbance in Holiday with one "hell" of a twist.
"This 80-year-old woman tells us when we arrive that her boyfriend was trying to commit some type of exorcism on her," said Pasco County Sheriff's Office Spokesman Doug Tobin. "Basically, our victim tells us that he was trying to exorcise her and get the devil out of her."
Investigators say the suspect in this case, 54-year-old David Benes, held the victim captive this past Monday and Tuesday.
"He was holding her down, she tells us. Pinning her arms to the ground, getting on top of her and also scratching her on her arm," Tobin said. "Her boyfriend had taken the batteries out of her phone so she couldn't call for help. He even went so far as to dismantle the garage so she couldn't get in the car and leave."
But the victim, who asked not to be identified, tells a different, sadder story.
She says she is suffering from breast cancer, and that Benes is a nice guy who is scared she's going to die, and seeks solace in the bottle.
She says the devil her drunk boyfriend was trying to exorcise was her cancer.
Either way, he's remains behind bars.
David Benes has been charged with domestic battery of a victim 65 years or older, false imprisonment and tampering with a victim.
