PHOENIX -

The Derrico quintuplets were born two weeks ago at Mesa's Banner Desert Medical Center. Today, they went home to Las Vegas.

That's where the family lives, but the parents had temporarily moved to Mesa for a few months in order to be close to their doctor that specializes in multiple births.

Only two weeks old, Deniko, Dariz, Deonee, Daican and Daitan took their first flight.

Still tiny and needing to be incubators but ready to be on the move and closer to their permanent home.

Doctors at Banner Medical Center in Mesa this morning prepared the quintuplets for their trip.

"I feel great it's surreal," says dad Deon Derrico.

Mom and dad spent the final months of their pregnancy and the first two weeks of their quintuplets' lives here in the valley.

But they were ready to be transferred to a hospital in their home town of Las Vegas.

"They are doing very very good that was one of the conditions, they had to be stable off of oxygen and a number of other things that had to be in place to be transported."

And while they'll still have to be in a hospital for a few more weeks, this next step in their journey home came as a relief.

"We weren't able to get things in order being here when everything was there. We know we have a challenging, exciting but challenging, road ahead."

So after the babies were placed into their incubators and hooked up to their monitors they were rolled out of the NICU -- out of the hospital and into a waiting ambulance that took them to their plane.

"We're just happy that health wise they are absolutely perfect. Mom is doing great babies are doing good we can't ask for anything better."

And you'd think caring for five newborns at once would be the biggest challenge. But they say there's a bigger challenge ahead. Can they tell the five little ones apart yet?

"Not quite not quite I'm trying to work that one out!" laughs Deon.

They already have 4 kids, so this makes 9. But he says having nine kids doesn't worry him. Having five newborns at once kind of does though.
