Village Halloween Parade in jeopardy

Posted: Updated:
NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) - The NYC Greenwich Village Halloween Parade-- known for its large turnout of people with vivid imaginations-- is in danger of being canceled this year.

Parade organizers say they are far short of the $50K needed to host the parade. They point to a lack of fundraising last year when superstorm Sandy hit.

"On the night of the parade we get a lot of donations but we didn’t get that opportunity," said Peter Criswell, parade organizer.

The parade along 6th Ave. starts at Spring St. and ends at 17th St.

“We have a lot of elements that we the producers put in but anyone can join in as long as you’re in a costume," said Criswell.

A last ditch effort is underway on the the fundraising site Kickstarter. As of Friday morning, parade organizers said they had approximately $6K in donations.

"We have to raise money for the sexy things like the floats and puppets.. and the not so sexy things like the porta-potties and walkie-talkies," said Criswell.

Anyone who would like to make a donation to parade organizers, should visit: Kickstarter.com
