Teen's SUV Taken At Gunpoint In 3rd Main Line Carjacking This Month

RADNOR TWP., Pa. -

Evelyn Amoruso came to a Radnor park Friday morning to hit a few golf balls. That's when she got hit with the news of another carjacking right across the street, the third this month on the Main Line.

"I think immediately about my grandchildren that are riding around in nice cars," Amoruso told FOX 29.

Radnor Police say the latest incident happened when two gunmen approached a 17-year-old outside a black Range Rover at the Radnor Crossing Apartments Thursday around 8:30 p.m.

"The suspect approached the victim and put the gun to his head and basically said, 'Give me the keys,'" Radnor Police Det. James Santoliquito said.

Within seconds, one suspect jumped into the SUV and made his escape.

"The second subject, after the black Range Rover was taken, left the immediate area in a tan, unknown type sedan," said Lt. Chris Flanagan.

This follows a carjacking at the Villanova train station back on Sept. 3, when a woman picking up her husband had her Porsche Cayenne SUV stolen right out from under her.

The day before, Lower Merion police say an elderly man had his Mercedes carjacked at gunpoint at this Bryn Mawr retirement community.

"We're not ready to link everything together, but obviously all of us have a heightened level of awareness since we've had three incidents in a short time," Flanagan said.

"Tragic for people in such desperate straights," said one driver. "So misguided, that they do that."

With plenty of luxury cars to pick from here, drivers are nervous and concerned for their own safety.

"It's very frightening," Amoruso said.

"You can't protect yourself totally," another driver added. "You have to live your life. This is a tragic thing that's going on."

Police did lift some fingerprints from the Porsche stolen two weeks ago along with some DNA. They are awaiting forensic test results.

Police are also working with the FBI, Lower Merion police, state police and other police departments, trying to determine if this might be a high-end car ring targeting luxury cars for sale overseas.
