Keke Palmer: I Had So Many Monologues

Posted: Updated:

Keke Palmer has a lot on her plate these days. She has a new album coming out, she plays Chilli in the new TLC movie, and she's taking on heavy drama in the new series "Full Circle", premiering October 9th on Directv. It's written and directed by playwright Neil LaBute and focuses on 11 characters who are all somehow connected. Each episode takes place in a restaurant and features a conversation between two of them. Keke plays a woman whose brother has killed himself and she confronts the man she blames for his death. She explained to Steve and Lisa how challenging this project was because the material was so deep and dark.

"Neil LaBute writes a lot of plays like that's the world he comes from...I had to do so many monologues it was like unbelievable so I had to really train myself to get used to these words so I could lob them to come out of me....I really had to get my head around this...when I had initially auditioned for this role it was not what I expected and then when I got the script and I realized oh wow this is some heavy, heavy, heavy stuff! I would allow the words to just hit me and listen to what I was saying and put the people to the images and just let it fill me up and allow myself to get into that emotional place."

Lisa also asked Keke how she felt about playing Chilli in the upcoming VH1 movie "Crazysexycool: The TLC Story."

"The girls and I worked so hard on this project not only because we work hard as actresses but also because we're huge fans of TLC ourselves. We know as fans what we would want to see and we wanted to make sure we gave the other fans that."

Unlike "Full Circle", Keke says this one didn't drain her emotionally...it actually wore her out physically. She told Lisa why she pretty much ate nuts and berries to get ready for the role.

"I had to work on the abs girl! I was like working so hard...she's known for being sexy, for having those abs right? I worked on my abs like crazy...it was the hardest thing ever but when I looked at the clip and saw my abs tears almost went down my eyes!"
