CTA Loop reroutes, Purple Line delays due to track work

Posted: Updated:
CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) -

Track work may delay riders on the CTA's Brown and Pink trains in the Loop, as well as Purple line riders in north suburban Evanston starting this weekend.

Trains on the Orange and Pink lines will run counterclockwise on the Outer Loop tracks from 4 a.m. Saturday until 10 p.m. Sunday, the CTA said.

The trains will stop at all of their usual stations in the Loop, but in reverse order. Track work addressing slow zones on the Loop Elevated tracks is causing the reroute, the transit agency said.

Orange Line trains will make their first stop in the Loop at Adams/Wabash, and proceed to the Harold Washington Library-State/Van Buren station, the CTA said.

Pink Line trains will begin at the Washington/Wells stop and proceed to the Clark/Lake stop.

In north suburban Evanston, track work continues between the Central and Davis stations, forcing trains to operate on the same track starting at 7 a.m. Saturday, the CTA said.

All passengers at the Noyes and Foster stations will board and exit trains on the Linden-bound side of the platform.

The work continues through Monday at 4 a.m., and will resume weeknights from 9 p.m. at 4 a.m. until early Friday on Oct. 4.

Minor delays are expected, and riders should allow extra travel time, the transit agency said. The work will affect Train Tracker predictions.
