Insurance brokers to help Americans 'shop' for Obamacare

Americans will be able to sign up for health insurance under Obamacare on Tuesday.

It's got a lot of people on edge because many are still confused about how it's all going to work.

With Obamacare launching on Tuesday, insurance brokers have found themselves an opportunity in the marketplace to make shopping for health insurance plans kind of like shopping for car insurance.

"It's a little scary, it is," said Erin Mackey.

That's how this single mom feels about choosing a health plan under Obamacare.

"It's like walking into school for the very first time making sure you are providing for your family's medical needs," said Mackey.

That kind of uncertainty is what some enterprising brokers are capitalizing on across the country.

Americans can go online to shop and compare Obamacare health plans, but in Phoenix you can actually go to a store.

"This is the first store of its type in the United States. We chose Phoenix because of the demographics here," said Alan Leafman, President of Health Insurance Express.

The shop will open its doors the same day that the Obamacare enrollment process opens.

There people can to talk to someone who will walk them through the exchanges, compare plans and figure out how to take advantage of subsidies.

"For a family of four, an income of up to about $92,000 will still qualify them for subsidies. The lower the income in the household, the greater the subsidies," said Leafman.

That's what a lot of people are wondering: will Obamacare help or hurt their bottom line?

"The cost. How much more is it going to cost me, as it's a struggle already as a single parent," said Mackey.

Most health insurance brokers also launched their businesses online.

Many of these entrepreneurs say they really don't know what to expect on Tuesday when Obamacare and their own businesses launch.
