PHOENIX -

Overnight, someone destroyed a memorial outside the American Legion on 7th Avenue in Phoenix.

Who would do something like this? That's what David Carrasco wants to know.

David Carrasco poured his soul into this tribute to the fallen, and someone decided to wreck it.

"I'm very sad about the whole thing, I mean it's a kick in the face really."

A statue of Jesus embracing a soldier was stolen. A display of boots with an M-4 rifle got the rifle torn off.

And the helmet on top, worn by a helicopter pilot in desert storm, is gone.

"For someone to desecrate this memorial, it's dedicated to our fallen heroes."

Most of the items in this memorial were donated by families of the fallen. Like the boots, seen here.

"One of my members he also served in Desert Storm and he gave those to me."

Carrasco just wants those precious mementos returned.

"I just hope whoever did this comes forward that's all I want."

Carrasco started on his memorial two years ago, and what happened overnight won't deter him. Police took a report and they're investigating.
