Police: Woman shot as man pulls gun from waistband

Updated:

PHOENIX (AP) - Phoenix police say an embrace turned deadly when a woman was fatally shot as her boyfriend removed a gun from his waistband.

Police say the 18-year-old man was hugging his 24-year-old girlfriend, Amanda Mosley, on Tuesday when he went to remove the gun. She had become uncomfortable hugging him because of the gun.

The gun discharged, fatally wounding Mosley.

Sgt. Tommy Thompson says the shooting apparently was accidental but the case will go to the Maricopa County Attorney's Office for review.

The man's name hasn't been released.
