$20,000 reward for info about U.S. Naval Officer's murder

Posted: Updated:
DETROIT, Mich. (WJBK) -

Terrence Hill Jr. joined the U.S. Navy when he was 17 years old. He did a tour of duty at the Persian Gulf in Iraq then went on to train navy personnel at the Great Lakes Naval Training Station in Illinois.

In early January of this year Hill was given a two-day leave to come home and visit family and friends. But that weekend, his mother was paid a visit by someone else - a detective, with some devastating news.

24-year-old Hill was shot during what police say was a robbery. Hill was sitting in his vehicle with a childhood friend when, police say, a man walked up, stole Hill's wallet and phone and fired the shot. Hill was rushed to the hospital but could not be revived.

"Terrence was a good guy. Of course, if they wanted something from him, he's not the type to just give it to you. He fought. And I'm not mad at him for fighting. He was in the military and he stood up for what he believed, defending. If it was defending the girl that was with him or defending his own honor - he did it, and I'm proud of him. But I miss him," his mother, Julia Spencer, tells Fox 2's Ron Savage.

A $20,000 cash reward if offered now to anyone who can help authorities find the suspect involved with Hill's murder.

"I just beg anyone that knows anything to speak up because the person is still out there, whether you're a relative, a friend, an associate - please speak up. Because my baby didn't deserve this," Spencer says.

Police describe the suspect as a black male with a dark complexion, 5 feet 7 inches tall with small build and as in his 20s. He is believed to have been wearing a black skull cap with a white line on it. Police say that description belongs to the suspect who shot Hill. Police are also looking for a driver, but do not have a description.

If you know something contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-SPEAK-UP (1-800-773-2587). You will remain anonymous.
