Georgia congressman leading fighting against Obamacare

ROME, Ga. -

U.S. Rep. Tom Graves has led the Republican effort to tie government funding to the federal health care law.

Graves represents the 14th District in northwest Georgia, which stretches down to the outer suburbs of Atlanta. Some of Graves' constituents told FOX 5 that they supported the congressman's actions in the nation's capital.

"You can't rob from Peter to pay for Paul, and that's what the others are trying to do," said voter Tony Norris.

The congressman counts on that support as he helps lead the Republican fight against President Barack Obama and Senate Democrats in Washington.

"There may be disagreements on strategy or tactics, but we are fully united by opening up the government as quickly as we can and as well as providing fairness to Americans as it relates to Obamacare," said Graves.

Graves, who has been controversial and has faced questions over personal business dealings, has garnered some supporter with his position in the fight that has brought the partial government shutdown.

"I don't accept the health care like they got it set up. I think it needs some changes. I hope them people in Washington are smart enough to make the changes on it," said James Blackstock.

But not all of the congressman's constituents said they were happy about the lingering impasse.

"I don't agree with either side. I think they are acting like little children. They can't come together and get it resolved so people can go back to work," said Danny Elliot.

The district was drawn by republicans at the state capitol and gives Graves a position of strength for a hardline stance in Washington. Graves won 73 percent of the district's vote in the last election.
