Hit and run kills woman, drivers continue to drive by

Posted: Updated:
DETROIT, Mich. (WJBK) -

An unidentified woman was found Monday morning after being struck by an unknown vehicle. Surveillance video shows, after the accident, dozens of cars driving by, even swerving to avoid hitting the body again, but of no one stopping to help.

After several minutes one car pulls over. Video shows a woman approaching the body, but then quickly returning to the car holding her stomach, almost as if she knew the victim could not survive.

Then another stops to help and someone called the police. A few minutes later an ambulance arrived and took the victim to the hospital. At this time it is unclear if the victim died at the scene of the accident or at the hospital.

"People fail to do what's right. The street lights [have] been out since day one, because I've been living out over here nearly about eight years. It's always dark. This is not the first incident," Evelyn Pritchett tells Fox 2's Maurielle Lue.

Fox 2 was there as investigators searched the area for a car that left the scene. They say it could be a dark-colored 2013 ford SUV. Police found fresh car parts at the scene.

No arrests have been made as of Monday evening. Anyone with information call Detroit Police.
