A new Pat Brown Institute/ Cal State LA Poll shows that Mayor Eric Garcetti maintains a strong approval rating amongst his constituents. However, most respondents said they didn't know enough about the new mayor to have an opinion about him.
While showing that 56% of respondents approved of the mayor's handling of his job and only 11% disapproved, 33% said they couldn't make a judgement on Garcetti's performance.
But the poll of 501 registered voters by the university's Pat Brown Institute of Public Affairs also found many of the city's voters knew little about the mayor. Overall, 56% approved of the way he has handled his job and 11% disapproved, but 33% could not say one way or the other.
Voters split almost down the middle on their judgement of the City of L.A. But 48% of San Fernando Valley residents said Los Angeles was going in the wrong direction, marking them as the most disapproving area. Only 37% of those voters approved of the city's progress.
The poll of 501 registered voters also showed strong approval for the LAPD, with 65% giving it a thumbs up and 30% disapproving of the job the department is doing.
The poll has a plus or minus 4% sampling error.
