Store clerk Syed Uddin opened the Citgo gas station on Mason Avenue yesterday morning when he says he came face to face with one of his regular customers who pointed a gun at him and demanded money. But Uddin's quick thinking helped him and a another customer get away safely.
Syed Uddin says all he could think about was his three children and his wife as the gun was pointed at his head.
"I was telling God, oh my God! How come I escaped from the guy?" he says.
Uddin says a customer he recognized came into the Citgo station twice Monday morning and left without buying anything saying he forgot his wallet. Both times there were multiple customers in the store. The guy came back a third time when there were no other customers.
Uddin says, "I saw the black gun and he tells me do not move, don't tell anything. Open register, the safe box and close the door or I'm gonna shoot you."
A few seconds after the suspect demanded the money from the safe, a woman tried to come into the store. The suspect told Uddin to get her out of there, so Uddin pushed her out the door and told her to run and call 911.
That's when Uddin made a run for it. The suspect took off without any money. And this isn't the first time Uddin has encountered a situation like this. Just last year he was stabbed in the neck during another robbery. That suspect was arrested.
The suspect is described as a black male 5-10 to 5-11. He was spotted leaving in a gold older model Buick that could be a Regal.
