Video Of Silenced Autistic Boy Goes Viral

Posted: Updated:

NORTHPORT, N.Y. – A new YouTube video of a 14-year-old autistic boy being silenced by a Long Island school board is going viral.

Footage shows Christian Ranieri, a freshman at Northport High School, trying to deliver a speech Monday night to his local school board.

He had gone to the school board to protest a recent two-day suspension and disciplinary action from the high school. He was frustrated because he didn't think administrators were properly implementing his individualized education program. So he went to the board to tell his side of the story.

The school board says by law, it had no choice and it stands by its decision, because law prevents disciplinary matters from being discussed in public.

Christian's parents said he couldn't speak at all as a child. They said Christian didn't want a discussion; he just wanted to be heard. Christian, who is also an advocate for other children with autism, didn't finish the speech at the meeting but has gotten to express himself for many news outlets after his video got over a thousand views on Youtube.
