Reward increased for tips in murder of Orlando grandmother

Posted: Updated:

The reward for information on a murder last month in Orange County has been increased to $19,000 from $5,000.

The Orange County Sheriff's Office on Friday said someone could receive the cash if it leads them to the person or people who killed Elena Ortega in her home last month.   Detectives say Ortega, 83, was brutally killed and her home was set on fire.

Her family pleaded for the public's help.  Elena Wilson, the victim's daughter' told us, "I hope that one day that pain right now that I have in my heart will ease a little bit by  justice."

The are asking anyone who might see the bracelet and the engagement ring she has worn for 67 years.  They are hoping if they find the belongings, they will find the killer.

Detectives have two "persons of interest" in jail now, but won't say if they have anything to do with the murder or if they are looking for someone else. They will only say they need more information.

Ortega is believed to have been a target, because the suspects knew she was elderly, lived alone and was ailing in health.

The family is hoping this is the last news conference they will give, because soon, someone will turn in those killers.  Wilson tearfully told us, "That's all I got.  Her memory, and those things after she ... worked so hard in this country, somebody just came in and got it."

Investigators are asking that anyone with information about Ortega's murder contact Crimeline at 800-423-TIPS (8477).
