A Kissimmee teacher, arrested for exchanging sexual texts with a teen, was out on bond Saturday. Detectives say Wayne Brown was having an inappropriate relationship with the 16- year-old for a year. They're concerned Brown has victimized other girls at Mavericks High School and possibly the church where he volunteers.
Fox 35 spoke with the pastor at the Living Word Church in Kissimmee, who said they are investigating whether Brown has been involved with any members, but made it clear no one has seen him act inappropriately."He's been a man of integrity, excellence, that's all we've seen from him. So we were just as surprised as everybody else with the allegations," said Pastor Alonzo Smith.
Smith says Wayne Brown isn't a member at Living Word Church, but he's been playing the keyboard at Sunday services for about nine months. That's about how long Kissimmee Police said Brown was exchanging graphic sexual photos with a 16-year-old girl at Mavericks High School, where he's a teacher. While the girl told police the relationship never got physical, she said it had grown intimate since it began last year. The cops are worried there could be more victims, because of Brown's involvement at the school and church. Now the pastor is talking to all of his members to make sure that's not the case. "We are pretty confident so far from what we heard, we haven't seen anything here," he said.
The church holds sexual misconduct workshops regularly, and has strict policies on inappropriate behavior. Smith says if any members come forward, he'll go straight to the police.
Brown is facing charges for distributing obscene material to a minor.
