NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) -

During the Columbus Day Parade, mayoral candidates Joe Lhota and Bill de Blasio passed each other going in opposite directions. Their positions on charter schools are in opposition as well, based on the latest Lhota campaign commercial.

Democrat de Blasio has said he would put a cap on charter school enrollment, not close other failing schools, and charge rent to some charter schools.

Lhota has said charter schools are an innovative approach to failing public schools. Education experts say charter schools will not disappear under Lhota or de Blasio.

The bottom line, experts say, is for schools like the Dream Charter School in East Harlem, if de Blasio is mayor enrollment will stay the same if Lhota is mayor the enrollment will increase.
