Jackie Orozco - FOX 35 News Orlando

Jackie Orozco

Jackie Orozco never imagined she would become a journalist, let alone a TV news reporter. Her experiences in life guided her to this career path and her mission is to not only give the local news to families but to change lives. She began her broadcast news career in the small town of Austin, Minnesota, also known as Spam Town USA in 2008. She was a reporter and weekend anchor for the ABC affiliate KAAL-TV.

Jackie learned quickly and was ready for a bigger challenge so she moved up the broadcast "ladder" in less than year. She accepted a position as the weekend anchor/weather forecaster and news reporter for KIVI-TV, the ABC affiliate in Boise, Idaho. She also presented the weather and news in Spanish for Mexicanal, part of KIVI-TV. She was the only Spanish-speaking reporter in the area.

While in Boise, Jackie covered an array of stories but the most memorable was a story called "Undocumented Immigrants and the American Dream." That earned her an award from the Idaho Press Club for the best "investigative/watch dog" story in 2010.

Again, her appetite for newer challenges grew and she was ready for her next quest. Her next stop took her to the south: Memphis, Tennessee. She was a reporter and fill-in anchor for ABC24 News WATN-TV. She was the only Latina/Latino news reporter in the entire Mid-South, which includes Tennessee, Mississippi, and Arkansas, to be on television. She spent three years there covering a variety of stories. Her niche: making a difference in the community, whether it impacts one person's life or an entire neighborhood. She was also a board member with the National Hispanic Professional Organization and was involved in many speaking events motivating today's youth.

Then in September 2013 she traded the barbecue for Florida oranges. She joined the FOX35 news team as a reporter. She's not afraid to ask the tough questions and tell stories that impact her new home. Jackie is ecstatic to be in Orlando where she has family and can't stop enjoying all the palm trees.

Jackie is a proud Illini and graduated from the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign. She earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Broadcast Journalism and a minor in Spanish. During her college years she obtained several internships with the Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities, the International Broadcast Bureau: "Voz de America, and she was as a reporter for the Department of Veterans Affairs in D.C.

Jackie was born and raised in Chicago. She grew up in the south side but cheers for the Cubs thanks to her two brothers. However, she will always support all her Chicago sports teams. As a first generation Mexican-American she tries to lead a good example for the younger generation. She enjoys cooking at home, traveling, running outside, and spending time with friends and family. If you have a story idea follow her on Twitter @ReporterJackie, Facebook, or just send her an email! She would love to hear from you!
