DETROIT (AP) - An autopsy shows that a Detroit man who police say was partly devoured by an animal in his home died of natural causes.

Part of Tyrone Brandon's leg appeared to have been chewed off. The badly decomposed body was found by relatives Monday afternoon on the city's northwest side.

Police are not sure if a dog or another animal gnawed on the remains. Brandon's pet dog was found locked in the bathroom, but police are not sure at this time exactly how or when the dog was put there.

Thousands of stray dogs reportedly roam Detroit's streets, living in vacant houses and buildings. But raccoons, opossums and other wild creatures are finding refuge in the city which has lost more than one million people since the 1950s.

The city of Detroit says workers and retirees have approved pension cuts, a crucial step to emerging from the largest municipal bankruptcy in U.S. history. The city reported results Monday after two months of balloting ended July 11. A judge still must hold a trial to determine if Detroit's overall bankruptcy plan is fair and feasible, but support from retirees is vital.
