The victim of an alleged priest sex abuse case has died, according to a new statement released by the District Attorney's Office.
"It is with great sadness that I have to announce that the victim in the rape and assault case against Robert Brennan passed away unexpectedly," stated District Attorney Seth Williams.
"The decades long demons and scars the victim in this case endured ended this weekend when he was found dead by Philadelphia Police Detectives. I can not say enough about the bravery this young man displayed in coming forward to bring these crimes to light. This young man's courage should serve as an inspiration to us all."
Karen Polesir of Philadelphia SNAP, the Survivors Network of those Abused by Priests released a statement about the victim. "This brave man courageously exposed a child molesting cleric and protected others. He fought hard to get his day in court, "Polesir said. "Now that day will never come. We are deeply grateful for his bravery and deeply saddened for his friends and family."
The Philadelphia District Attorney's Office is currently reviewing the case, and will likely have a decision on the status of this prosecution sometime next week.
Brennan is accused of abusing more than twenty children.
The assaults allegedly took place in the sacristy of the church in Reverend Brennan's bedroom in the rector inside a storage area on parish property and at a movie theater.
Brennan was arrested at a private residence in Maryland. The 26-year old victim bravely came forward last January and told officials at the Arch Diocese.
Rain at times expected tonight, Friday, and early Saturday. Another fall-like blast of cool weather to follow for the weekend.
Expect unsettled weather through Saturday morning as waves of showers and thunderstorms move through the area. Some of the storms may bring heavy downpours later this afternoon.
It's still muggy out there. Things start to change tomorrow afternoon, as the rain clears out, and much cooler air moves in making it feel more like fall. Sunday is nice with a cool breeze and unseasonably low temperatures which last though early next week.
