EMU students and parents voice safety concerns following an upswing of crime on and near the university's campus. Football player Demarius Reed was found shot to death on Friday and then, over the next 48 hours, two separate incidents of sexual assault were reported.

YPSILANTI, Mich. (WJBK) -- The Ypsilanti police department is asking for information following the death of Demarius Reed, a well known player on the Eastern Michigan University football team.

According to the university's website, investigators are looking for anyone who attended the 'after party' on the night of October 17th, through the morning of October 18th. The party was held at 773 Green Road, Apartment 104 in Ypsilanti in the University Green Apartment complex.

Anyone with information is asked to call Ypsilanti police detectives at 734-368-8780 or the information tipline at 734-483-9510.

Demarius Reed was discovered around 7:15 a.m. in an off-campus apartment in the 700 block of West Clark Road. Ypsilanti Police tell the Ann Arbor News the victim was discovered by his roommate and appeared to have been shot to death.

An auditorium at EMU was filled Friday afternoon during a question-and-answer session with faculty, staff and university police.

The circumstances leading up to the suspected homicide were not made available. However, the university's chief of police, Bob Heighes, told students that police have suggested a possible motive for the crime may have been robbery.

Reed, a junior wide receiver from Chicago, had 15 catches for 185 yards and a touchdown in six games this season.

In what some are calling a "haunting tweet," Reed tweeted out on Tuesday: "Blessed ta see another 24 [hours] please help me to make good decisions my lord". (See right.)

Reed was taken out of a football game last week after sustaining a blow to the head that caused a concussion.

"I loved him. Demarius was my best friend, and he was my son at the same time. It's really unfortunate what's happened. I'm honestly at a loss for words right now. I'm hurt, but, I loved him and I appreciate him. I appreciate the time we have together," his father, Carl Reed, says.

In addition to the Ypsilanti police department anyone with information may call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-SPEAK-UP.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.
