The mother of a man murdered by a prison escapee is "angry" withthe system. Evangelina Kearse said she wants to know who helped the man whokilled her son, walk out of prison. Now that Charles Walker has been caught, after a days longmanhunt, Kearse told FOX 35 she feels relieved.
Kearse said when she got a letter from the Florida Department ofCorrections informing her that the man who murdered her son was out of prison, she couldn't believe it.
"My heart just dropped, knowing that my loved one was lyingdown in the ground and he's getting out," Kearse told us, "It was just a kickin the face."
Walker was serving a life term for killing Cedric Slater more thana decade ago. Her son is never far from Evangelina's mind. Three weeks ago, shesays she had a feeling something was wrong.
"I was really thinking about him, real strong, and I just hadthis eerie feeling every day like something is fit to happen. But I justcouldn't put it together. I think this is what it was, that Charles was gettingout of prison," Kearse said.
Now that Walker is back behind bars, Kearse added that "eeriefeeling" has gone away, and she believes her son can finally rest in peace.
"I can find closure once again, I think for good thistime."
