Brothers aid 10-year-old boy bitten by venomous snake

DE LEON SPRINGS, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35 ORLANDO) -

Brothers Justin and Chris Ramsey were fishing at the Lake Woodruff National Wildlife Refuge in De Leon Springs early Sunday evening when they heard a boy crying and others yelling frantically.

"The father comes over and asks for help. He goes, 'My son got bit on the foot by a snake!'" Justin Ramsey tells FOX 35.  "We asked him what kind it was, and he said he thought it was a moccasin."

The Ramseys couldn't get a cellphone signal, so they carried the 10-year-old boy about a quarter- mile to call for help.

In a 911 recording, they tell the operator, "Hopefully, we're gonna try to get him to the gate, but we're pretty, we're a little ways in here."

Paramedics showed up right about the time the Ramseys got the boy near the park entrance.
The boy was then taken to Florida Hospital DeLand.

As of Monday afternoon, paramedics and hospital officials would not give us the boy's name or condition.
