DeLand police officers are responding to a shooting at a location off of S. Woodland Blvd. (U.S. 17-92) near McGregor and Orange Camp roads.
According to a police spokesman, a DeLand police officer was on patrol near a Racetrac gas station located at 2080 S. Woodland Blvd. when he was alerted about a shoplifter by a store clerk.
The store clerk directed the officer's attention to a car in the parking lot. According to the officer, the driver of the car accelerated backwards crashing into a car that was parked in front of the store and occupied by a father and a child. The driver then rammed another car before accelerating at the officer who then fired his weapon, according to a police spokesperson.
The car was seen last traveling south on Woodland Blvd.
Minutes later, another call was received by police reporting that a man was "thrown" out of a car at a DeLand Kia dealership, and a short while after that, another man arrived at Bert Fish Hospital in Orange City with injuries.
Investigators are saying that both the man at the Kia dealership and the man at the hospital suffered gunshot wounds and were the occupants of the car seen leaving the Racetrac gas station.
The identifies of the two men have not been released and their condition is unknown. The officer involved in the incident has been placed on administrative leave with pay pending the outcome of the investigation.
