Small fire causes Delta flight to return to NY

Posted: Updated:

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (AP) - A small fire aboard a Delta Air Lines plane headed to Atlanta has forced it to return to Hancock International Airport in Syracuse.

The Post-Standard in Syracuse reports that just after Delta Flight 1841 took off from Syracuse around 6 p.m. Monday a small fire ignited near a coffeemaker. Syracuse Aviation Commissioner Christina Callahan says the fire was quickly extinguished and the plane returned safely to Syracuse.

Delta's website shows that the plane reached Atlanta several hours later.

It was not immediately known how many passengers and crew were on board.
