BRUNSWICK, Ga. (AP) - Defense attorneys are presenting their case in the trial of a coastal Georgia man charged with clubbing to death his father and seven others inside the mobile home they all shared.

Testimony was scheduled to resume Tuesday in the trial of 26-year-old Guy Heinze Jr., who faces the death penalty if he's convicted of murder in the Aug. 29, 2009, slayings just outside Brunswick.

Prosecutors rested their case Monday as the trial entered its second week. Police testified they suspect Heinze killed each victim by swinging a shotgun barrel like a club. Investigators said they believe Heinze, who had been smoking crack cocaine, wanted the victims' money and prescription painkillers.

Defense attorneys say police ignored evidence and alternate suspects in a rush to build a case against Heinze.
