Phoenix City Council considers ending pension spiking
Do you have a job where you can save up days off, sick days, and holidays you don't use, to get a cash payout and also add years to your pension when you leave? It's a rarity in the public sector, but it's happening in the city of Phoenix.
Tuesday night, the city council had a chance to stop some of the practices that many city residents and taxpayers have grown tired of paying for.
It didn't happen. Two proposals that would have done little to fix the problem didn't have the votes needed, and a third proposal that would have delved into the issue was not allowed a vote.
