Teen runs away to boyfriend's house where she was held hostage for days

DETROIT, Mich. (WJBK) -

Last Tuesday a 15-year-old girl ran away for the first time. Her father says she went to a house on Barlow Street in Detroit where an 18-year-old male lived.

The father says he went to the house and knocked on the door, demanding his daughter come home. But the teenage boy's mother denied the girl was at the home. The father says that mother was trying to hide the fact that her son was having sex with his underaged daughter.

When the father was refused to get his daughter out of the house, the father called police. He says officers showed up three separate times to the house over the period of five days. The father watched outside as police searched the home - and find no trace of his daughter each time.

"There was nothing else we could do. We went in there, we searched from top to bottom - she's not in there," the father tells Fox 2's Taryn Asher. "[Police] told us to stay away from these people's house. Don't be harassing them. And I told them, 'My daughter's in there being molested, or in danger, or some form of fashion. And you're telling me I'm harassing them?'"

He says he knew his daughter was in the home because he would sit outside, waiting, and see her in the window. Eventually he learned she wanted to leave but was being forced to stay.

"They just told me to go hide because they didn't want to get in trouble," the 15-year-old girl tells Asher. She says she went and hid upstairs.

Detroit police confirmed they were at the house three times and searched it twice, but say the girl was not inside.

Fox 2 talked to the 18-year-old boy on the phone. He says the girl only stayed at the home one time. When asked if the couple had sex the teen responded, "No."

But the girl says she was, in fact, at the home each time police searched the home. She explains: "I can tell you everything they were doing and saying. They were standing in the dining room asking questions." She said officers did not go upstairs.

After five days without his daughter, the father took matter into his own hands. "'We going to make a swap!'" the father says he told the mother of the boy. "'Somebody's going to come with me. If my daughter don't come with me before the day's out, one of ya'll is coming with me.' So as time went by the mother was like, 'Yeah, she's here.'"

Now, after nearly a week, the girl was finally home.

Her father and his wife tried to report what happened but claimed they got the run around, and were sent home by police to acquire more information on the teenage boy. Then when they got a rape kit done at the hospital they were told to deliver five bags of evidence, filled with the girl's tainted clothes, to police themselves.

"My biggest issue with this? No one cared," the father shares.

Detroit police say they do plan to investigate and plan to go after the teen boy for statutory rape, but they were waiting for the victim and her family to file an official complaint first. The family did that on Wednesday.

A children's hospital spokesperson tells us the family was asked to take the evidence to police because the hospital employees just handle the physical care of the child.
