Mar Yvette's Weekend Roundup

Weekend Roundup: Spectrum Athletic Club, Crossroads & Choice Group Choir

Posted: Updated:

FOX 11's food and fun expert Mar Yvette searches the Los Angeles area for some of the best places to eat, drink, shop and have a great time. Featured guests then swarm our FOX Television Center parking lot every Thursday morning between 9am and 10am on Good Day LA, creating a big party as one jam-packed segment known as the Weekend Roundup!

Here's more information about the guests we featured:

Free Workouts at Spectrum

Working out has to be spooky. Be your own fitness superhero and try one of more than 4,000 group fitness classes for FREE this weekend at Spectrum Athletic Club including their hottest class of the year: Ultimate Cross Training, which uses tires, parachutes, weight sleds, giant ropes and kettlebells to help you strengthen, tone and target those hard to reach areas. A full list of classes at all 8 gym locations are available online at www.spectrumclubs.com so check it out and get moving!

Travis Barker & Crossroads

Since opening earlier this year, Crossroads has become the ultimate LA hot spot. The menu is 100% plant-based, the scene is fancy yet laidback, and the celebrity clientele just keeps growing. Everyone from Paul McCartney to Oprah to Ellen DeGeneres is a fan and among the A-list investors is Blink-182 drummer Travis Barker. (Who knew he was vegan?!) The food is absolutely beautiful and it tastes as good as it looks. The must-try dish: Artichoke "oysters" made with crispy oyster mushrooms, yellow tomato bearnaise sauce and kelp "caviar." FYI: Blink 182 just announced that they're celebrating their 10th anniversary album with two special shows at the Palladium in LA on November 6 and 7. So make your rezzie for some delish meat-free meal and then head on over to the show!

Choice Group Choir

Enjoy a night of music and entertainment for a great cause at the annual Choice Group Inc. party tonight (October 24) at the Annenberg Community Beach House in Santa Monica. Among the many special performers will be Choice Group Ambassadors (kids ages 10-17) singing their original song "Dream Big," which you can get on iTunes. Choice Group Inc. provides inner city and foster youth with a safe and nurturing environment that promotes music and related arts programs. From hands-on drum lessons and art classes, to high-tech music production and video game design sessions, CGI fills the void of quality arts after-school programs within the Los Angeles community. Shelly's Dance and Costume

Halloween wouldn't be complete without a trip to Shelly's Dance & Costume shop located on Westwood Blvd in West L.A. Shelly (yes, she is a real person) has it all! From dance, fitness and yoga wear to costumes, shoes, tights, gloves, hats, jewelry and everything in between, this really is a one-stop shop for adults and kids alike. Just beware -- you could end up spending HOURS at this place!
