Mother, son charged in murder-for-hire plot

NEW PORT RICHEY (FOX 13) -

Most mothers would do almost anything for their child.

But Pasco County detectives say one mom, 44-year old Michelle Miller, went way too far by helping her son hire a hit man.

"I am very convinced. She has been the subject in multiple criminal investigations involving her son James Barron. She's been active in many of his cases," Pasco County Sheriff's Detective William Lindsey says.

Detectives say Miller acted as the "go between" for 23-year old James Barron, who is already charged with murdering Cedric Sanders in his car in 2011.

He's also charged with gunning down Kamar Allen a few months earlier, and dumping his body in a field.

"James Barron also was involved in a burglary ring where he had about 30 teenagers involved in breaking into homes. He was dealing drugs to these kids," said Pasco County Sheriff Chris Nocco.

In a jailhouse letter to a fellow member of the Bloods at another prison, Barron said he wanted a key witness "peter-rolled" for "wearing a wire and snitching."

Detectives say that's gang code for murder.

But because inmates can't send mail to each other, detectives say Barron sent the letter to his mother. They say she then repackaged the letter and sent it on its way.

"She's surrounded herself with gang members. She talks like a gang member. She knows exactly what the letter said. Through my investigation, I found that she had read the letter and forwarded the letter knowing what it was," Detective Lindsey said.

Now, she's in jail too, facing first degree felony charges for solicitation of murder. She faces up to 30 years if convicted.
