Miami man gets 33 years in SC slaying

Posted: Updated:

BEAUFORT, S.C. (AP) - A Miami man will serve 33 years in prison for a shooting death in South Carolina four years ago.

The Island Packet of Hilton Head reports that 36-year-old Antonio Collins was found guilty Thursday by a Beaufort County jury of murder, first-degree burglary and possession of a weapon during a violent crime.

Collins was convicted in the death of 27-year-old Ronald Coleman Jr., who was shot four times during a shootout outside his home on June 22, 2009. Collins was wounded but escaped from the scene.

Authorities said information from a 2010 federal drug investigation in Hampton County led investigators to Collins.
