Things took a turn Saturday in the murder investigation of a Volusia County mother and her two children. According to the Volusia County Sheriff's Office, as investigators hammered Luis Toledo, a person of interest, he reportedly went to the bathroom and locked the door, smashed a mirror and tried to kill himself with a shard of glass.
Meanwhile, detectives spent another day trying to find his family's' bodies.
Barely able to stand, Yessenia Suarez's mother lit a candle for her daughter, nine year-old grand-daughter, and eight year-old grandson. Saturday morning, the grieving mother went inside the Suarez home as soon as the crime scene tape came down.
As Suarez's family desperately waits for information, Luis Toledo spent the day at Halifax Medical Center. He was rushed there after Volusia County Sheriff's detectives say he tried to kill himself during questioning.
Back at the house on Covent Gardens Place in Deltona, a memorial has sprung up for Yessenia and her two children, as neighbors try to wrap their heads around the news that the man at the center of this murder investigation tried to kill himself. People came by to light candles for the family.
Investigators said both Suarez and her two children are dead, but Volusia county Sheriff's deputies aren't revealing what led them to that conclusion.
Some neighbors stopped watching TV to avoid hearing details. One said, "It's killing us, it's killing everybody. We don't want to even think about it anymore. I don't want to think what happened, I don't want to know."
The search for their bodies continues in both Volusia and Seminole counties. Sheriff's deputies scoured several areas including this landfill where investigators returned back Saturday morning.
The search was suspended at dusk Saturday night, it will resume Sunday morning.
Meanwhile, Fox 35 has learned Toledo will be released from the hospital and returned to the Sheriff's office. He'll then be sent to the Seminole county jail where he is facing domestic violence charges.
